How to Make Your Own Baby Wipe Solution

I love to find ways to reduce the amount of stuff I’m throwing away on a daily basis. As a parent of a newborn, one of those things is baby wipes. So today, I’m sharing my favorite homemade baby wipe solution with you!

With this recipe and some washable wipes, you’ll not only cut down on waste, but you’ll also seriously cut costs. And, perhaps best of all, you’ll have a solution that you can play around with and adjust to your preferences, while knowing every ingredient that’s going into it.

Before we get into the solution though, let’s talk a little bit about washable wipes.

Why Should I Use Washable Wipes?

I’ve already mentioned that using washable wipes can seriously cut down on your waste, but there’s so many other benefits as well. Here is my list of pros and cons about reusable wipes:

Pros of using washable wipes:

  • Create less waste

  • Never run out of wipes (as long as I keep up on laundry!)

  • Use less wipes per diaper change (as real fabric is a bit more "grabby" than disposable wipes)

  • Save money on buying packs of wipes

Cons:

  • You have to wash them! :) (Though, in my opinion, it's really not bad. Once you're in the "parent zone", it’s not far off from dealing with a dirty diaper)

What Wipes Brand is Best?

Personally, I love the Esembly Baby Brand Washable Wipes. They’re organic, super soft, the right amount of not-too-thin-and-not-too-thick, and they launder really easily (I use this: Powder Laundry Detergent link). But, you can use any washable wipe you want! I recommend a soft cotton or plant blend, as I think these tend to work the best.

My Homemade Baby Wipe Solution

You’ll need

Ingredients

Directions

Put the ingredients directly into the large jar or storage container.

Notes

  • I make a BIG amount of this (I multiply the recipe by 7), and then put it into a HUGE ball jar (I have two large ones I keep on hand just for this). I like making a giant batch of this all at once, so I don’t have to make it very often.

  • To be safe, you’ll want to spot test this recipe on your baby's skin to check for allergies prior to using it with your wipes.

Directions for Use

Funnel the solution into a spray bottle, and easily spritz a Washable Wipe before using it to keep that tiny hiney clean!

Tip: Make sure to give the ball jar a little shake before you fill up your spray bottle, and shake your spray bottle before you use it. The solution has a tendency to separate because of the oils in it!

Once I’m done using the wipe, I place it in my diaper pail (I love my Odor Locking Diaper Pail, and I even have a Washable Diaper Pail Liner for it to make it super easy). Then, all I need to do is keep up on my laundry and I have a never-ending supply of wipes ready at hand!

What’s your favorite thing about using washable wipes? I’d love to hear about it in the comments below!
