Instagram Content Clarity Series | Step 3: Discover and Utilize Your Unique Influencer Personality

Copy of how to build an instagram aesthetic (3).png

Hello there! And welcome back to the third post in my Instagram Content Clarity Series. All the steps in this series build on each other, so if you haven’t checked out the first two blog posts, I recommend you head over there first. You can find them here:
Step 1: Instagram Content Clarity Series | Step 1: Decide on Your Ultimate Instagram Goal
Step 2: Instagram Content Clarity Series | Step 2: Get Clear on Who You’re Posting For

Before we get into your unique influencer personality, I’d like to introduce you to the concept of “generosity marketing”. This is the idea that being generous and giving with your content is the best kind of marketing out there. Here’s why:

When people feel like they’re getting a lot of value out of your posts, they’ll grow to trust your brand.

Then, when you offer your products, services, or advice associated with that content, if they’re a great fit (and it’s an excellent offer!), they’ll jump at the chance to work with your brand.

Whatever type of content you’re producing, you’ll want to practice generosity marketing towards your ideal audience, in order to grow your brand and sell your product or service. But the exact way that you are generous with your content will likely be determined by your influencer personality type. There are four main influencer types, but you’ll probably dabble in all of them at some point. However, if you can choose (and stick with!) two, your primary and secondary influencer personality, you’ll have a clear style of content, and you’ll strengthen your brand as a result.

The four types are:

The Inspirer🤩

This type of influencer fills their feed with beautiful photography, motivational quotes, inspiring stories, or creates posts that encourage their followers to pursue a better life

The Connector👯

The Connector brings people together, with other people, experiences, or companies/products. They may share about upcoming events, communities they’ve discovered, or they may feature people, brands or products that will bring value to their own followers.

The Educator👩🏻‍🏫

If you’re this type, you may find yourself sharing “life hacks” or tips, providing advice or intellectual/moral/social tools, or sharing processes for accomplishing a goal

The Entertainer🤗

The Entertainer is all about evoking strong emotions in their followers, whether that’s a humorous picture with an entertaining caption, or an unbelievable moment. Followers will come to your feed when they need to really let their hair down.

From the list above, write down the two personality types you most identify with. I don’t want you to feel completely locked into a type, but focusing your content within your type will help you produce consistent material, and it will help you more efficiently use your time and energy. Once you’ve written your two main types down, you can revisit the descriptions above whenever you post content, to check in and make sure that you’re staying true to your personality and brand.

I’d love to hear which influencer personality types you resonate with most in the comments below!

If you’re worried because you find yourself changing your personality type, ask yourself this: are you changing your type with every few posts, or are you simply revisiting your personality type as your brand grows? Switching types overall, rather than back and fourth every month, may mean that you’re gaining more clarity into who you are as an influencer, and that you’re practicing a better understanding of your brand.

Want your (and my!) notes from this blog post to be in one easily accessible place? Then sign up for the Instagram Content Clarity workbook at the bottom of this page! Now that we’ve done the work to figure out who you are as an influencer, who your audience is, and you’ve examined your Instagram goals, it’s time to start designing your content pillars! Next week we’ll dive into content creation, and look at how to make your content creation process more efficient and consistent. And if you want to check back in on the first two posts in this series, you can check them out here and here.
